LUCKNOW: After district administration’s crackdown on street protests against the new citizenship law, a group of city residents took to an online ‘selfie with torch’ protest on Monday.
People participating in ‘#LightForDemocracy’ protest lit candles, earthen lamps and torches in their houses and clicked selfies with them before posting it on Facebook after tagging five of their friends.
The protest was carried out from 6-9pm and will be repeated on Tuesday. People from all age groups and walks of life participated in the protest.
The picture of a girl sitting in candlelight holding a placard which read, ‘#Hum Sab Bharat #No NRC #No NPR’, went viral. The photograph was posted by her mother on her Facebook page.
A Lucknow University student, Anjali Srivastava, also posted a picture with an appeal, “We have to come forward, speak and tell the world what we really stand for. If not this way, then shall do it that way!! I stand against all the brutality, violence & injustice that’s happening around. I fight & uphold peace, love, equality & respect for each and every citizen of this country. Jai Hind.
