A class VIII student died of drowning in Gomti River under Hasanganj police station area on Wednesday afternoon. He along with his two friends had gone to take a dip in the river when met the mishap. The police recovered the body and sent it for autopsy. Also the cops are searching victim’s companions to know from them the sequence of incident.
Police spokesman AK Dwivedi said the boy identified as Anubhav Mishra alias Ayush (13) of Munshibagh locality in Hasanganj left his house after his mother Rajni left the house for work. She works as a maid at different houses in the locality.
Around 3 pm, the group reached at Agarsen Ghat at the river. Some youths present there told police that the group of three boys jumped into the river one after one. “They swam to the middle of the river and later one of them began to drown in the river. His friends got scared and they came out of the water and fled the scene while crying,” an eyewitness told police.
It surfaced in the police investigation that those present at the bank of the river got apprehensive and they called police informing that a boy had drowned in the river. On the information a team reached the place. After hours long efforts, the drivers fished out the body of the boy.
“The identity of the boy could be ascertained only by 7 pm as there was no one to tell his name and address. The news spread in the locality and deceased’s mother reached the police station searching him. She was later taken to mortuary where she identified the body,’ the police spokesman said. He said the boy was a native of Rae Bareli.
