LU’s research on role of social media in higher education


LUCKNOW: The Lucknow University will research on the how effective social media can be for teaching and will develop a framework for effective learning in higher educational institutes.A series of experiments and surveys will be conducted on reaction, grasping power and attentiveness by using various social media platforms.The university will also conduct a research in new areas like gas sensing, computational biology and metallic nanoparticles.For the purpose, three centres of excellence are being set up in the physics , biochemistry and mass communication and journalism departments respectively, with Rs 42.5 lakh already been sanctioned by the higher education department.At the department of mass communication and journalism, research will be conducted on aspects like YouTube videos for understanding concepts versus traditional classroom teaching. “The youth who is easily available online will be taught using the platform on which he is more comfortable,” said head Prof Mukul Srivastava of the department of mass communication and journalism.A grant of Rs 5.50 lakh has been sanctioned for the centre. The department of physics will research on gas sensing that will find answers for questions like how toxic gases present in the atmosphere are and how to sense gas leakage within no time.It will also develop scientific equipments for tracking hazardous gases in mines. A grant of Rs 17 lakh has been sanctioned for it, said LU spokesperson Prof N K Pandey.
